PitruPaksha Hindus commemorate PitruPaksha for sixteen days, a time to remember and grieve their departed ancestors. Akumar Funeral Services conducts a Shraddha ceremony and other rituals during this time to aid in the spirits of our departed ancestors’ salvation. In addition to the Yagna and PitruDoshaPooja on this occasion, PindaDaan will also perform. The best day to do the rite is on the ancestor’s death day. Hindu mythology states that the Pitrus, or ancestors, are incapable of sustaining themselves after death. It is their children’s responsibility to support them. To do this, they had to observe PitruPaksha and perform the rites faithfully.

How can I do the Puja of PitruPaksha at home?

Samagri is required to perform pitrupaksha puja at home. This is a brief summary:

  • Aasan, the wooden stool
  • Kusha grass cow
  • A representation of the ancestor
  • Barley and black sesame seeds on white fabric
  • Copper or bronze utensils

Guidelines for Performing the PitruPakshaPooja at Home:

The PoojaVidhi is as follows:

Place a wooden stool with its back to the south. Place a white cloth over the stool. Scatter the barley and black sesame seeds onto the fabric. Save a photo of your ancestor on it. You can also use Kusha grass (supposed to contain particles of Lord Vishnu) in place of the photo. The ancestor or ancestors for whom you are doing the pooja should be invited. Say their name, complete with last name, as in, “This PitruPaksha period, we, the entire family, cordially invite you to come to our house.”Next, add water to a copper or bronze utensil. To this, add some rice, barley, sesame seeds, and raw cow’s milk.

To assemble the pinda, mix cooked rice with gangajal, milk, and honey. Curl this mixture of rice into a ball and place it in front of the image of the ancestor. Place the rice ball on top of a leaf. The Pinda is a ball used in the PindaDaan ritual. You can give the rice ball to a cow after the ceremony is complete. If there is a nearby river, it can also be submerged in it.

Ghee and jaggery giving:

Another offering to the ancestors is possible. After the cow dung cake has been almost completely burned, it is best to cover it with ghee. Then scatter a small amount of jaggery on top of it. If the jaggery has burned all the way through, then we know that the ancestors have eaten it.

By performing the PitruPakshaAmavasyaPooja, we give thanks to our ancestors. As thus, we will be able to have prosperous and happy lives.
